Ketchum grenade

Cast iron grenade with a wooden tail and cardboard fins.
This grenade was used during the US civil war and 2 types exist: 3- and 5 pound.
The body was filled with gunpowder and had a percussion fuze.
The tail would give the grenade a stabile flight to make sure it landed on the fuze end.
(Thanks Tom, for letting me use this photo ( 5pound ) ).

Grenade, Hand,
Fragmentation Mk2

The Mk2 has a cast iron prefragmented body and has a filler screw in the base.
Early grenades were completely painted  yellow to indicate that they were filled with an explosive compound.
As yellow wasn't the best camouflage, the bodies were repainted olive drab and there would only be a yellow marking visible just below the fuze.
Heigth 114mm, Width 57mm. Weight 595gram.

Both models were also used as rifle grenades, with the use of 2 types adapters.
Heigth 114mm, Width 57mm. Weight 595gram.

Grenade, Hand,
Smoke WP Mk2

The WP Mk2 was used for both smoke and incendiary effects, and was filled with white phosphor.
It was made of thin steel and the fuze carried a blasting cap to shatter the body and expose the WP filling to the air.
The bodies were shipped with separate fuzes.
Except for the markings there is no visible difference between the WP Mk2 and the FM Mk2 mentioned below.
Heigth 145mm, Width 58mm.

Grenade, Hand,
Smoke FM Mk2

The Mk2 FM is a smoke grenade without incendiary effect.
The body is filled with liquid Titanium Tetrachoride, which gave a dense white smoke when in contact with the air.
Grenades were shipped with separately packed fuzes.
Without the painted marking it's not possible to tell the difference between this grenade and the Mk2 WP.
Heigth 145mm, Width 58mm.

Grenade, Hand,
Smoke WP M15

The M15 was a WP smoke grenade.
The body was made of steel and the fuze carried a blasting cap to shatter the body to pieces to free the WP filling.
A dense white cloud was the result. The white phosphor also had an incendiary effect.
